In a conversation with TechCrunch reporters, the head of the US office of OnePlus, Robin Liu, explained why the company has only now decided to release a folding smartphone. It took a long time to develop.
“I admit, we spent a huge amount of time on the new form factor, research and development. We are now ready to begin integrating the new Android device into our ecosystem of hardware and software products. We decided to release the device only now because we believe that regardless of the various experiments and hardware and software used in such a device, we will be able to offer a best-in-class user experience,” Liu commented.
He also added that another reason why the company decided to launch a foldable device now is based on community feedback and current trends in the foldable smartphone segment. The development of the device is being carried out with the support of the parent company Oppo, Liu noted.
Previously, OnePlus CEO Kinder Liu said the company’s first foldable smartphone will “offer OnePlus’ signature smooth and responsive experience” and the company wants to “launch a device that offers the best user experience in today’s foldable smartphone market.” .
According to rumors, the OnePlus foldable smartphone will offer 8-inch internal and 6.5-inch external displays, and will also be equipped with a 50-megapixel main camera.
