Publisher Private Division and developer Wētā Workshop have announced Tales of the Shire, a brand new game set in the Lord of the Rings universe. It’s described as a heartwarming new game about the leisurely hobbit life. Even though we know very little about the game itself at the moment, the development team’s history with Middle-earth makes this project really interesting. Wētā Workshop is a company that primarily designs special effects and props for films. The company’s most famous works include the films Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, as well as the television series The Rings of Power. The company has designed costumes, sets, miniatures and much more for the films and therefore has a unique understanding of Tolkien’s fantasy world. Wētā Workshop has its own game development team, which means this project will have a very special authenticity thanks to their knowledge and experience with Middle-earth. Maybe it’ll be a breezy life simulation about growing potatoes and eating second breakfast.
