Netflix has done one again. The live-action film adaptation of the manga series One Piece demonstrated the right instinct and thrilled millions of fans – even those who previously had little interest in Japanese black-and-white comics. The huge success of the new series is causing a stir, even in Hollywood circles. Jamie Lee Curtis, the actress who currently won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, is applying for a prominent role in the second season of One Piece.
New Netflix series: What is One Piece about?
The One Piece phenomenon dates back to 1997. For more than 25 years, the jSpanish manga series extremely successful worldwide. Internationally there have already been over 500 million copies which sells comic volumes the size of funny paperbacks. In terms of total circulation, the series is in the same league as Harry Potter.
The manga has been published in Germany since 2001 von Carlsen Comics published. One Piece was also implemented as an anime, i.e. as an animated series.
What is One Piece? The story of One Piece revolves around a gang of pirates whose leader, Monkey D. Luffy (“Luffy”), can stretch his body to ridiculous lengths in the style of Reed Richards from Marvel’s The Fantastic Four. The Straw hat wearer and his friends are looking for the “One Piece”, the one great treasure that feels like the whole (fictional) world is after it.

Hollywood star Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween, Knives Out!, Disney’s Haunted Mansion) expressed great interest in it on Instagram Dr. Kureha to play in the 2nd season of One Piece. She responded to the opinion of countless fans that the Oscar winner (Everything Everywhere All at Once) would fit perfectly into the role of the flamboyant scientist, often described as a “witch”.
How good is One Piece? The new series One Piece is also great fun for Netflix subscribers who have previously had nothing to do with the manga. No great prior knowledge is necessary. So you don’t necessarily have to the manga series or that Anime have seen. Average positive audience ratings of 95 percent on Rotten Tomatoes speak for themselves.
