Ubisoft has not yet officially announced Far Cry 7, but the new shooter is in the works but it is an open secret. A new insider report could now reveal the first solid story details.
Under the internal working title Project Blackbird, Ubisoft is reportedly working on a new part of the Far Cry shooter series, which will go on sale as Far Cry 7 in autumn 2025. The game is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal and is also changing the engine from Dunia to Snowdrop.
An official confirmation of all this information is still pending, but a new report from the usually well-informed colleagues at Insider Gaming now reveals possible story details that go beyond the earlier speculations mentioned at the beginning. At the same time, this new information also counters the old rumors that the game could be called Far Cry: Rise and could be set on a fictional tropical island called Kimsan, which is said to be in the Yellow Sea near Korea. These earlier speculations about the setting were wrong.
Instead, Insider Gaming’s unnamed but familiar sources say that Far Cry 7 revolves around rescuing the player character’s kidnapped family. A wealthy family is kidnapped by a conspiratorial group that currently goes by the name “Sons of Truth”. Your task is to save your family in a non-linear story within a specific time window. The in-game timer is currently set to 72 hours, which in this case should correspond to 24 hours in real time. The timer should be able to be paused in the game when you enter a safehouse.
Insider Gaming emphasizes that the exact details of this story are still pending and that these may change by the time the shooter is released in around two years. If things stay as they currently are, then the non-linear design of the plot means, above all, that you don’t have to save family members in a specific order. In addition, individual hostages can also be killed, which should have a direct influence on the further action. Ultimately, the goal is to eliminate the “Sons of Truth”. If you want to complete the shooter 100 percent, you also have to save all family members safely.
An interrogation system, which will be established as a new game mechanic in Far Cry 7, is intended to help in the search for the hostages. You don’t necessarily always get the information you need from individual opponents. Sometimes, instead of telling you the truth, opponents will simply not tell you anything, flee or lie.
Will it all happen like that? That remains to be seen for now! We will keep you up to date!
