Payday 3 launched anything but problem-free and is currently being criticized. This already existed in advance in view of the game’s online requirement – but at least this could still be dropped in the future.
Payday 3 recently got off to a turbulent start, albeit in a negative sense. There are always connection problems, matchmaking errors or even problems with stability in general. For some players, the new heist shooter turned out to be more or less unplayable.
Developer Starbreeze has already promised to continue working on the title until all problems are resolved. Initial maintenance work has now been carried out and the makers expect improvement. The reason for the problems is said to be the third-party matchmaking service used by Payday 3. An “unforeseen error” occurred here. The partner is also working on improving and stabilizing the game’s online systems.
The problem did not exist in this form in the technical beta test phase or in early access. Accordingly, Starbreeze is currently evaluating all short- and long-term options. In the short term, the focus is on ensuring a decent gaming experience; in the long term, we will also evaluate whether a new partner for the matchmaking services makes sense.
There was also criticism from the community in advance regarding the online requirement of the shooter. Even if you actually just want to play something alone, you have to be connected to the servers with Payday 3 – and such connection problems are of course doubly annoying. Due to the situation that arose at the launch, an offline mode is now on the table; The online requirement could therefore be lifted in the future. In this regard, it is said that they are also investigating “making Payday 3 less dependent on online services”.
“We are disappointed with the issues our players experienced during launch weekend, but we are confident in our core product and the quality of Payday 3,” said CEO Tobias Sjorgren. “We have a lot of work to do to regain the trust of the community, but we will work hard to do that.”
