Sony announced on September 28 plans to fire Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO and Playstation chief Jim Ryan. An official statement posted on the Japanese company’s website said that Ryan has decided to leave Sony, and he will step down in March 2024, after nearly 30 years of working at the technology corporation in various positions.
In April 2024, Jim Ryan’s position at Sony will be assumed by Sony President and Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki. The announcement of the position change states that Totoki will have to “help determine the future leader of Playstation.”
Jim Ryan himself explains his departure from Playstation with personal reasons. According to him, it is becoming increasingly difficult for him to combine “life in Europe and work in North America.” He noted that he sees the future of SIE “more optimistic than ever before.”
