Free extends the availability of its Internet Backup: it is a 4G box which supports your Freebox if your line is down. The best part: you can rent it even after the hitch.

If your Freebox or your line breaks down, Free can lend you a 4G key while the operator resolves the problem. But in the second case, the ISP now offers another option: a 4G box that you plug directly into your Freebox.

This box is much larger than a 4G key and looks a lot like the Wi-Fi router that you can rent from Free, or even the Freebox Pop. In reality, it does not work autonomously: you must necessarily connect it to your Freebox. So, if the latter is broken, this is not the solution that will be given to you.

The installation seems simple and takes just a few steps. You plug the box into your Freebox, then into the mains, and that’s it. The rest of the configuration seems automatic.

According to the blogger Genma, the maximum upload speed would be 25 MB/s, and Internet Backup retains the settings of its Freebox and offers full stack IPV4. He also confides that the Ethernet cable provided is long enough to place this antenna in optimal reception conditions (near a window for example).

It is the specialized site Univers Freebox which reports the extension of the availability of Internet Backup. From now on, it is not only Free Proxi zones that are affected. Free Proxi is a “proximity” customer service developed by Free for almost a year. The idea: it’s the person you call who comes to help you out. In the event of a line outage, it can leave you with a 4G Backup Internet box for free. Subscribers can even keep it for 4.99 per month.

Even in areas not covered by Free Proxi, therefore among the vast majority of subscribers, we will be able to benefit from Internet Backup through after-sales service. Free has also told Univers Freebox to consider making the box available directly from the store in the subscriber area. And for this, you don’t need to have a line problem. However, it seems impossible at the moment to go to the Free store.
