A major specialist in drones, DJI deploys a whole range of FPV devices, these are machines specialized in immersive flights and delivered with an FPV headset thanks to which it is possible to see the live video stream as if you were yourself -even inside the drone. Last year, DJI announced that it was working on a new FPV drone model capable of flying indoors. Codename: Avata. Its compact dimensions are not its only asset, the DJI Avata can also boast of being able to film in 4K and improved autonomy compared to the previous DJI FPV. In the Explorer bundle with a 20% reduction at Amazon, it is accompanied by the Goggles Integra FPV headset and the DJI RC Motion 2 radio control.

An immersive drone for flying indoors
With the rainy and windy weather of recent days, flying your drone outdoors is out of the question, which is not really a problem for the DJI Avata. This FPV drone has been designed to fly indoors thanks to the stability it is capable of, the precise control of the DJI RC Motion 2 and the fairing that surrounds the propellers. However, it remains more pleasant to use outdoors, it is after all a sports drone capable of performing acrobatic figures and providing breathtaking sensations through the FPV headset.
As for the FPV headset, this bundle is the DJI Goggles Integra which are a cheaper alternative to the DJI Goggles 2 which have made compromises, for better and for worse. For example, the Goggles 2 touchpad gives way to a 5D joystick that some will find more practical for navigation. On the sacrifice side, there is the autonomy which only lasts two hours with a non-replaceable battery and the antennas which do not are more removable. Fortunately, no sacrifice has been made on the quality of the image which is still as sharp and bright.
4K camera and extreme stabilization on the program
Coming back to the drone, the DJI Avata has a 48 Mpx stabilized sensor with a 155° field of view capable of filming in 4K 60 fps or 2.7K 120 fps if you want a smoother image to film his acrobatics. A big highlight on the display is the addition of a rangefinder which displays data such as GPS coordinates or altitude in real time, it is also possible to save this information in a separate SRT file which can then be embedded in the film. In terms of autonomy, the manufacturer announces 18 minutes per battery.
We were talking about indoor flight earlier, to achieve this, the DJI Avata incorporates several technologies that make it exemplary in terms of stability. First there are the classic RockSteady 2.0 and HorizonSteady functions for a vibration-free image. As for the piloting itself, everything is designed for safe flight, including automatic piloting functions such as hovering as well as the possibility of returning the drone automatically to its takeoff point. Finally, there is also emergency braking in the event of… an emergency.
