Aroged, Jakarta – WhatsApp announced the launch of a new Discord-like voice chat feature for groups on Monday. This new WhatsApp feature has notifications that are designed to be non-intrusive. Unlike group calls which echo to every member in the group.
Voice chat starts silently without any ringing involving chat bubbles that you can tap to join.
This feature lets you talk about things with anyone who can join, while letting you still send messages to those who can’t join.
You can quickly unmute, end a call, or send a message to a group without having to leave the voice chat by clicking the call controls at the top of the chat.
WhatsApp New Feature Release
The company will roll out voice chat globally for large groups over the next few weeks. Start with groups of 33 or more people. WhatsApp notes that voice chats are protected with end-to-end encryption by default.
Voice chat on WhatsApp basically works the same as similar features on Discord, Telegram, and Slack. Because it allows large groups of people to connect through voice chat.

Today’s announcement comes as WhatsApp has added a number of features in recent months. The company recently launched the ability for users to use two accounts simultaneously.
Also rolling out is passkey support on Android, along with a new “Flows” feature to enhance the shopping experience. This allows users to do things like choose a seat on a flight or book an appointment without leaving the app.
