The content was created using an early version of the AI tool ChatGPT in November 2022. After Google was informed of the results, they disappeared on November 15th. At Full Fact’s request, the operators of “Emergent Mind” also removed the entries from their site.
Unfortunately, the incident presents a recurring problem: It’s not the first time that AI content has portrayed glass consumption as health-promoting, let alone that dangerous information about glass consumption has appeared under Google Snippets.
While Google says its automated systems are “designed not to display featured snippets that do not meet our guidelines,” in many cases it is unable to detect them without help.
