Rockstar released GTA Vice City in 2002. Considered one of the studio’s best games, Vice City has become an iconic part of the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
As an extremely memorable and well-designed city, Vice City has provided many hours of enjoyment to millions of gamers around the world. However, recently one of the Rockstar developers revealed an interesting fact about this place and the game.
GTA Vice City was originally planned as a set of missions for GTA 3.
Rockstar North CTO Obbe Vermeij revealed this information in a recent blog post. He said:
It was originally supposed to be a set of missions for GTA 3.
However, this decision was changed after GTA 3 showed the world its potential 22 years ago. After the incredible success of this title, Rockstar planned to continue the project as a standalone game with more content.
Moreover, GTA Vice City initially used the code of its predecessor until the programmers were able to work on new code. This meant that the project turned out almost like a miracle.
Thus, GTA Vice City was born as a separate release. The developer also said that it was very difficult for the team to work on the project, since after GTA 3 the expectations of fans became much higher.
He explained that because of this success, GTA Vice City became more complex as a project. However, the team was able to survive because:
Everyone was just running on adrenaline.
With just days left until GTA 6’s official reveal, Rockstar has confirmed that the trailer will be revealed in December. This way, fans will finally be able to see the city again, highlighting its importance after it was only planned as DLC in 2001.
