Close Friends Instagram Can Now Be Posted and Reels

Aroged, Jakarta – Instagram continues to innovate by expanding its Close Friends Instagram feature. Previously, users could share stories only with a select group of people, not all of their followers.
However, now users can also share posts and reels from the main homepage exclusively for Close Friends Instagram.

Before sharing a post or reel, users can tap the “audience” menu, then select the Close Friends list from there. When appearing in the Close Friends feed, the post or reel will be marked with a green star icon, similar to Close Friends stories which appear with a green ring around them.
A user’s Close Friends list will remain consistent across all post types, be they stories, reels, home posts, or notes. On stories, when someone replies, it functions like a direct message to the storyteller, which is already private. However, when a user likes or comments on someone’s Close Friends post or reel, it will be visible to everyone in the Close Friends circle.
Connect Without Pressure, Post Without Restrictions
While this feature was first spotted during a trial in September, it will now be officially released. The timing of this launch couldn’t be better, especially after X discontinued its Close Friends-like Circles feature, which also let users share content with small, carefully selected audiences. With the success of new social apps like BeReal, mainstream apps like Instagram are trying to fulfill users’ desire to be more authentic online.
“Knowing that our community is already using Close Friends as a no-pressure space to connect with the people who matter most to them,” Instagram said in its official announcement.
“We hope this opens up more ways to be your most authentic self on Instagram while having more choice over who sees your content.”
For creators, the Close Friends feature opens up potential new sources of income. While some are already using third-party applications to sell subscriptions to their Close Friends stories.
Now, creators have the potential to monetize their exclusive Instagram content beyond temporary Close Friends stories.
