Aroged, Bandung – EA and Maxis are slowly but surely revealing more details about The Sims 5 or better known as Project Rene. So far, the development team has often relied on the Behind the Sims web series to convey the latest information, even though there is not yet a clear picture.
This time, Lyndsay Pearson as creative VP of The Sims franchise admitted that his team was very interested in introducing multiplayer features in Project Rene. Multiplayer is expected to be one of the features that will be present in The Sims 5 in the future.
Multiplayer Features Leaked in The Sims 5
Pearson spoke to Radio Times via a podcast entitled One More Life. He said he really wanted the multiplayer feature in Project Rene. This feature first appeared in The Sims Online, which closed in 2008. Even though The Sims franchise is a single-player game, various mods for The Sims 3 and The Sims 4 added this feature and it became quite popular among fans.
“We really want to introduce [fitur] multiplayer. I don’t mean multiplayer in a big scary world full of strangers like that. But literally, how about you and your friends play together? There are a lot of different flavors to take, so we explore a lot of different things,” Pearson said.
The multiplayer feature has so far received pros and cons reactions among fans. Some of them welcomed the idea as innovation, while others argued that multiplayer could reduce the quality of the single-player experience that has become a hallmark of the franchise.

Animal Crossing Becomes Inspiration for Multiplayer Features
Pearson explained that there were two different games that were the inspiration for The Sims 5’s multiplayer features. He admitted that the development team always talked about Animal Crossing as the main source of inspiration.
“We’ve seen over the last few years with Animal Crossing, players finding ways to play games that don’t have specific support, but they can do scavenger hunts or whatever, which is great. Or the player who hosts the talk show on Animal Crossing,” he added.
There is a possibility that players can enjoy Animal Crossing: New Horizon style multiplayer features. Players can invite other players to visit their own world.
Among Us is one of the games that is a source of inspiration. The development team emphasizes the co-op mystery-solving mechanic as a clever way to tie multiplayer together. Therefore, there is a possibility that the social deduction gameplay will be inspired by the game made by Innersloth and similar games.
It is still unknown what the multiplayer features in The Sims 5 will look like. At the same time, it has been confirmed that the new generation of The Sims game is not an MMO.
