Publisher Devolver Digital and developers from Japanese Skeleton Crew Studio (Olija) presented new joint project – tactical roguelike in the style of kung fu Forestrike. The announcement was accompanied by a gameplay trailer.
Forestrike players will take on the role of a martial artist named Yu, who must cross the country to free the emperor from the clutches of an evil admiral. The hero will face many enemies along the way, but he has a secret weapon.
We are talking about a supernatural gift of foresight – it will allow you to mentally conduct an upcoming battle and choose the ideal sequence of movements necessary to defeat a superior enemy.
Each battle in Forestrike is a puzzle, to solve which players will have only one attempt after the start of the real battle. If the hero dies in reality, he is thrown back to the start of the passage.
After each death, the battles and environment for the next run are regenerated, but some progress made will be retained: “Even the winner does not always emerge from the battle unscathed, but the further Yu goes, the stronger he becomes.”
They promise a picturesque magical world, “the most beautiful pixel landscapes,” unusual characters (many of whom you will have to fight), furious puzzle battles, and hand-animated heroes.
Forestrike is expected to be released in 2025 in PC versions (Steam) and Nintendo Switch. The supported languages so far only include English, so the list of localizations will probably be updated.
