Reviving dead characters is a common thing in fighting games, and who better than Heihachi Mishima to know about it? The main antagonist of all Tekken was thrown into a volcano at the end of the seventh part, but even that didn’t stop him.
Let’s remember that in Tekken 7, it seemed that Kazuya Mishima had dealt with his father Heihachi once and for all – first causing his heart to stop with a powerful blow, and then throwing him into the mouth of a volcano (see the video at link).
This was far from the first death for Heihachi in the series, and fans were predictably skeptical about the antagonist’s death. Producer Katsuhiro Harada, however, insisted that the elder Mishima in Tekken 8 was “definitely dead.”
Three-minute trailer unveiled at EVO 2024 announcedthat Heihachi Mishima is not only alive in Tekken 8, but will also be joining the roster of fighters as part of paid DLC this fall.
Heihachi, who has returned from the dead, will also be part of an additional story chapter announced for the fall, the events of which will unfold after the Tekken 8 campaign. Judging by the video, the episode will be called The King of Iron Fist Resurrection.
Heihachi Mishima will be the third fighter in Tekken 8’s first season. Eddy Gordou joined the roster in April, while Lidia Sobieska – the game’s Polish Prime Minister – will join on July 26 (July 23 as part of the season pass).
Tekken 8 debuted on January 26 of this year on PC (43% discount until the evening of July 22 in the Russian Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X and S. According to the results of the first month after the release, the game’s sales exceeded 2 million copies.
