Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot on a recent call with investors told about the company’s expectations for the upcoming open-world action adventure Star Wars Outlaws.
According to Guillemot, Ubisoft is expecting a strong launch for Star Wars Outlaws, as it is “one of the most anticipated games of the year in the industry” and the community is “really positive” about it.
It’s worth noting that fans’ spirits were dampened by IGN’s recent gameplay reveal, which showed Star Wars Outlaws looking sloppy and suffering from performance and AI issues.
Guillemot cited marketing efforts as the third component of Ubisoft’s projected success for Star Wars Outlaws. According to him, the publisher is running the “biggest advertising campaign” in its history.
In other words, Ubisoft has spent more effort and money marketing Star Wars Outlaws than any other game it has ever made. Exactly how much is unclear: Assassin’s Creed games can have marketing budgets in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
There are also high hopes for Assassin’s Creed Shadows – they want to see it among the most profitable. Together with games-as-services (Rainbow Six Siege, XDefiant), the company expects that the coming months will be successful for it.
Star Wars Outlaws will be released on August 30 on PC (Ubisoft Connect), PS5, Xbox Series X and S, but owners of premium editions will get access three days earlier. The game went gold in early July, so no delays (including due to criticism) are expected.
