Well-developed companions are an important part of any RPG, and BioWare’s upcoming Dragon Age: The Veilguard is no exception. In an interview Game Informer The studio staff explained what makes the companions in the game special.
According to the production manager of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the companions from the new game have become “the most detailed, complex” and generally the best in the history of the entire series.
“(In previous games) it felt like the allies were going on a journey with me, the main character… But in (Veilguard) they are so well-developed that I am the one who is going on the adventure with them,” BioWare insists.
BioWare has made sure that the entire world of Dragon Age: The Veilguard and its allies exist and develop independently of the main character. These characters are at the center of all the events of the game.
Companions will have their own tasks in and out of combat:
in battles, they choose their own targets and, as their story progresses, learn to better use the abilities available to them. The skill wheel creates a sense of team play, and targeted combos allow you to organize explosive skill chains; outside of battles, allies will have their own worries, fears, and personal refuges (like their own room in the Lighthouse, the team’s headquarters) – companions will be able to start romances not only with the protagonist, but also with each other, although some of these interactions can lead to dire consequences and / or difficult decisions.
“All of these decisions, dialogues, and details of[the allies’]lives put you in a position of great affection for them, which[in previous games]I honestly didn’t experience. And sometimes that leads to joyful moments, and sometimes to heartbreaking ones,” BioWare teases.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is expected this fall on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PS5, Xbox Series X and S. In mid-June, BioWare held a 20-minute gameplay demonstration of the game. A text translation into Russian has been announced.
