French publisher and developer Ubisoft has responded to allegations of plagiarism in the official artwork for the upcoming open-world action RPG Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Let us recall that in mid-June, the Japanese historical reenactors group “Sekigahara Rifle Corps” noticedthat her flag is being used without permission on one of the concept arts for an upcoming Ubisoft game.
The image in question is from the promotional material for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which features a banner of the Sekigahara Rifle Corps in the distance (compare to the original flag).
Recently, the Japanese microblog Ubisoft problem admitted“deeply apologized” to the players and representatives of the Sekigahara Rifle Corps, and promised not to distribute the illustration anywhere else.
At the same time, concept art with the flag of the “Sekigahara Rifle Corps” was included in the artbook for the collector’s edition of the game, and it will not be possible to remove it from there. Reenactors, however, satisfied already an admission of error on Ubisoft’s part.
Meanwhile, a Japanese petition demanding the cancellation of Assassin’s Creed Shadows due to Ubisoft’s disrespect for Japanese culture and history (in particular, the image of the samurai) is already approaching 80 thousand signatures.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is expected to be released on November 15 on PC (Ubisoft Store, EGS), PS5, Xbox Series X and S. The events will take place in feudal Japan, and there are two main characters – the agile shinobi Naoe and the dark-skinned samurai Yasuke.
