While the creators of Battlefield are preparing their interconnected universe for its debut, fans of large-scale online battles with destructible environments and military equipment are bored with nothing to do. Flying Squirrel Entertainment is coming to their rescue.
The Dutch studio, known for the shooter Battle Cry of Freedom with the American Civil War setting, is preparing a new project – the multiplayer action game Over The Top: WWI will take players to the battlefields of the First World War.
Over The Top: WWI Set to Launch in Early Access Steamthroughout the rest of 2024, and while waiting for the exact release date, received a gameplay trailer with developer commentary.
Battles in Over The Top: WWI take place on vast maps with support for up to 200 simultaneous players, a wide range of weapons, controllable armored vehicles, and eight classes across five different directions.
An officer can call for air support, a specialist has access to a flamethrower, a machine gunner has access to a machine gun, an engineer can build defensive structures, and so on.
The developers are preparing a close combat system inspired by Mount & Blade: Warband with strike directions, realistic bullet and shell physics, destructible environments (including landscapes) and dynamic changes in time of day and weather.
In addition, they promise two sides of the conflict (the Central Powers and the Triple Entente), a first- and third-person camera, the ability to dig trenches, more than 50 types of weapons, over 12 hand-made maps and a full translation into Russian.
