And they will allow artificial intelligence systems to be operated at lower costs.
Amazon (AWS), which occupies a third of the cloud services market, is not only developing its own Graviton family of central processors, but is also trying to create computing accelerators for artificial intelligence systems that would surpass NVIDIA solutions in terms of price and performance. All market players have become too dependent on the products of the latter brand, and therefore the largest ones are ready to create their own alternative, as explained Reuters.

At least a few engineers are working on building such accelerators in the former Annapurna Labs, which Amazon acquired back in 2015. The ultimate goal, the company says, is to build accelerators that are 40 to 50 percent better in price than NVIDIA products, and that can run the same language model at half the cost of NVIDIA products.
