Today, the American actors’ guild SAG-AFTRA announced a strike targeting the gaming industry. They said they oppose the use of AI in games, and in order to support actors’ rights, they will not work with many studios until their demands are met. This will most likely lead to delays in games.
Take-Two is one of the publishers that cooperates with SAG-AFTRA. And the guild’s statement explicitly states that it is one of the teams that must comply with the association’s demands. However, the strike should not affect the production of Grand Theft Auto 6, since the project is “exempt” from it due to certain conditions set by the guild.
Kotaku reached out to SAG-AFTRA to clarify the situation with the most anticipated game right now. Screen Actors Guild officials told about the rules of the strike and stated that everything is not as simple as it might seem at first glance.
Actors who are participating in the strike: “Cannot work on new projects or recently started projects. However, games that have been in production for a year or more, as well as live/current games, are excluded from the strike.” It is specifically emphasized that these are the conditions at the current time.
Let us recall that the SAG-AFTRA strike also affects the Activision publishing house.
