Fans of Grand Theft Auto 6 may have to be patient. The game, which has already been dubbed the “most anticipated project of the decade,” takes risks faced a significant release delay due to the SAG-AFTRA strike that began on July 25.
The protest is the result of a year and a half of unsuccessful negotiations between the guild and major gaming companies, including Take-Two, the publisher of GTA 6. The actors are putting forward two key demands:
Improving wage conditions Obtaining informed consent for the use of their images by artificial intelligence
The strike could seriously affect the development of many anticipated projects, but GTA 6 is among the most vulnerable. Analysts have already dubbed it a potential big hit of 2025, but now those predictions may not come true. Delays in voice acting and motion capture could significantly delay the development process.
Take-Two has remained tight-lipped about any potential delays. However, if the situation plays out like last year’s entertainment industry meltdown, game studios will have to seriously rethink their release schedules. In the case of GTA 6, that could mean pushing the release date back from 2025 to late 2026.
