We continue our acquaintance with the updated model range of monitors from MSI. This year, the manufacturer transferred mass devices to a screen refresh rate of 180 Hz, and we have already had one of these products. It belonged to more affordable models, so it might not interest demanding users, although it demonstrated a very good picture. Now it is the turn of a more expensive product, which belongs to the MAG series.
MSI MAG 274QRF QD E2
The monitor is made on a modern fast Rapid IPS matrix with a diagonal of 27 inches and a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. The declared reaction time is 1 ms (GTG), so the device is suitable for active games like the FPS genre without problems. There is support for Adaptive Sync synchronization technology, which, together with a screen refresh rate of 180 Hz, allows you to add smoothness and minimize image breaks in dynamic scenes. But the matrix used is interesting not only for its speed – thanks to quantum dots, the manufacturer promises a wide coverage of the Adobe RGB and DCI-P3 color space at 94 and 98 percent, respectively, you can not even remember sRGB. Such indicators allow you not only to enjoy graphic and video content, but also to work with it. Also, the update of the model range has increased the maximum brightness of the screen and now 400 cd / m² is a standard value, and not only in HDR mode. As befits the older models, there is a USB hub and a KVM function. There is also the ability to charge devices with a power of up to 65 W via the USB Type-C connector, which can also operate in an alternative mode to transmit images to the monitor.

Delivery set
The monitor comes in a large, oblong box with standard printing. There is a plastic handle on top for easy carrying.
The package includes documentation, a set of VESA75 bracket mounts, a disassembled stand, USB, DisplayPort and network cables, and a power supply.
The power supply has an output of 19 V and provides a load of up to 120 W. The network connector here is a laptop “Mickey Mouse”, so you will have to use an adapter to connect to an uninterruptible power supply.
Appearance
MAG 274QRF QD E2 has a modern frameless design and its front part does not stand out from most devices on the market.
Of course, the frame is still there physically, but it is very thin – on the sides and top it is only 8 mm wide, while at the bottom it reaches 18 mm. There is also a plastic overlay, which at least somehow dilutes the boring appearance.
Despite the external power supply, the monitor case is quite thick, and there is a ventilation grille on top, which strongly resembles modern MSI models. We have already seen the same design more than once when getting acquainted with devices from this manufacturer.
The monitor mode indicator is located at the bottom right of the user. It glows white, and in standby mode it glows orange. The brightness is low, so the indicator will not distract attention.
The back cover is all that is left for the manufacturer’s design ideas to run wild. Here it is simple and laconic, only a few diagonal lines remind us that the device belongs to the gaming series.
The only decorative elements are a dragon logo and a glossy insert that provides RGB backlighting, but it is turned off by default. First, you need to turn it on in the monitor menu, and then configure it in the proprietary application, otherwise it will flicker like crazy.
There is only one control here in the form of a five-position red joystick button, which is located on the right side of the back of the monitor. There is a slot for a Kensington lock on the bottom left.
The interface connectors are located in a niche under the stand. There is a power connector and a 3.5 mm mini-jack for headphones, two HDMI ports and a DisplayPort, USB-C and regular USB for a hub.
The stand is metal with a plastic cover, a pentagon in profile – the same leg can be seen in the G274QPF-QD model, which was tested a year ago. It is assembled quite simply, and if it is not necessary, then you can use the VESA75 bracket mount. The leg has a hole at the base for laying cables.
The stand is also multifunctional and allows you to change the height of the monitor within 130 mm and rotate it at an angle of –45° or +45°.
But besides this, there is the ability to tilt the screen at an angle of -5° or +20°, or rotate it by -90/+90 degrees, that is, in fact, pivot, which will be useful in some scenarios of using the device.
