Digital Foundry analyzed The First Descendant, released on July 2, from a technical performance point of view. The game has three modes on consoles: graphics, performance, and balance. Thus, comparing the game’s performance in all modes, it was found that Sony consoles significantly outperform Xbox consoles.
While both consoles perform similarly in 30fps graphics, 40fps balanced, and 60fps performance modes, the difference between the two becomes apparent when you add in FSR3 frame generation. The PS5 targets 90fps in all modes, while the Xbox Series X only targets 60fps in those modes, which is 30fps less than the PS5.
This shows that the PS5 beats all consoles by 50 percent in frame rates, showing off the power of its GPU in upscaling technologies. What’s more, the PS5 is targeting 30 fps in graphics mode, so going from 30 to 90 is almost a three-fold increase, which is incredibly good.
While the Xbox Series X has previously outperformed the PS5 in many games, with the advent of FSR3 framerate generation, it looks like the PS5 will be the clear choice for future games.
Needless to say, Sony is releasing the PS5 Pro, which has even more scaling capabilities, so it will make the Xbox Series X a less suitable choice for gaming.
