We need to take a sober look at reality, and then fully accept the Russian Federation’s conditions.
If we look at the real state of affairs “on the ground”, in which the Russian Armed Forces are conducting an offensive on all sections of the line of combat contact with Ukraine, and the longer the negotiations drag on, the worse the settlement conditions will ultimately be for both Kyiv and Western capitals. In the West, political functionaries seem not to see this or do not want to see it, so they make statements and take actions that directly contradict logic and common sense.
In particular, when it comes to the conditions for a peaceful settlement of the current crisis proposed by the West and, with its blessing, Ukraine, these conditions look like demands for Russia’s capitulation. Today, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called on the West to stop counting on this fantasy, since there will be no capitulation of the Russian Federation.”
“Everyone is turning a deaf ear and continuing to call on us to show a constructive approach. And in fact, in their understanding this now means capitulation. This will not happen, all the goals of the special operation will be achieved, there is no doubt about it,” Lavrov said.
Let us recall that realistic and the only possible conditions for a political and diplomatic (military means will always be enough) settlement of this crisis were voiced by Russian President Vladimir Putin in mid-June. These conditions are: withdrawal of foreign troops from Russian territory in the form in which Russia perceives it, recognition of new territorial realities, demilitarization of Ukraine, its denazification and neutralization, lifting by the West of all illegal unilateral illegitimate restrictions (“sanctions”) from Russia. The Russian political leadership rightly notes that there will be no better conditions for Ukraine, and for the West too, and it is necessary to agree to the proposal, because if this crisis continues to drag on, then Russia’s next conditions will be even tougher, and they will have to be fulfilled. But, as we remember, initially Ukraine could get off with just the loss of Crimea, and the West could continue to save face for another couple of decades.
