As the Game Boy Color launched in 1998 When it came out, it was able to display previous games in no less than 10 different colors. Classics such as Super Mario Land or Tetris were given a very unique aesthetic. The Game Boy, one of Nintendo’s most successful consoles, was given pretty much all of the legendary game series, such as Zelda, Pokémon or Kirby. Things were looking bleak when it came to fun racers. That is now changing.

In the 1990s, the F-Zero series provided plenty of racing fun alongside Mario Kart. Part 1 simulated racing on the Super Nintendo in 1990 thanks to intelligently used Mode 7 effect a feeling of speed that was unparalleled at the time. However, F-Zero could not even begin to keep up with the sales figures of Mario Kart.

F-Zero: Climax was released in 2004, the last part for the Game Boy Advance. However, 19 years later, it made a very special comeback. Nintendo released F-Zero 99, a mass fun racer – exclusively for Nintendo Switch Online members. But it didn’t stop there. A new, unofficial “F-Zero” is now making up for what Nintendo missed back then.

Mario Kart and F-Zero were not released for the classic Game Boy or the Game Boy Color. At least when it comes to the futuristic racer, a developer from the homebrew scene has now come up with a solution. G-Zero World GP looks exactly like what you would have imagined a genuine F-Zero from Nintendo for the Game Boy Color to look like 25 years ago.
