Roland Emmerich and James Cameron are undoubtedly two of the better-known personalities in the Hollywood cosmos. James Cameron in particular was and is a filmmaker who has made history in cinema. One thinks of mammoth projects such as Titanic as well as the legacy of the Avatar films.
Emmerich, on the other hand, was a popular director for a time thanks to his disaster films. But nowadays, films like Godzilla from 1998 are viewed with a lot of cynicism and malice. Other projects like Independence Day, on the other hand, have aged much better in the pop culture memory than the Kaiju project.
A crossover between Emmerich and Cameron?
The two were actually supposed to work on a project together in the 90s. But the project that was once planned never became a film. Why? Well, Roland Emmerich recently revealed a few secrets about it. The occasion? The current Comic-Con in San Diego.

Not interested in Cameron?
Cameron once tried to bring back the 1966 film Fantastic Voyage. Emmerich was asked about this project during the panel. “James Cameron is very bossy, so at some point I just gave up,” said the director. “Because at some point the question arises, ‘Is this your film or my film?'”
“We were right at the beginning of production. Because I thought ‘Why is he so bossy?’ I have to say, I’m doing my thing, and if I can’t do my thing, then I’m not interested. It’s that simple. So if someone wants to tell me what to do and has more power than me, then I’m out.”
Emmerich is now present on Amazon. On July 19, 2024, a brand new series, Those About to Die, was launched, in which he played a leading role. Cameron’s fan base is already waiting for the third Avatar film, although it is not expected to be released for several years.
