During San Diego Comic-Con 2024, it was announced that Fantastic Four: First Steps will be the official title of the Fantastic Four film starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
Set to hit theaters on July 25, 2025, exactly one year from now, the film will be set in the 1960s but in a retro-futuristic version of that era, therefore on the one hand familiar to the public but on the other completely new and with undoubted potential.
“We’re not just setting the movie in the ’60s, we’re setting it in the ’60s in a retro-futuristic way,” director Matt Shakman explained during the SDCC 20224 panel. “Some of it will be what you know about that time period, and some of it will be things you’ve never seen before. With the right amount of heart and brains, anything is possible.”
Apparently, panelists were also treated to a clip from the film in which Pedro Pascal, who plays the character of Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic, hosts a sort of popular science TV show. The video also features the Thing played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach.”
Many questions
There are obviously many questions about Fantastic Four: First Steps, and it is no coincidence that fans of the Marvel super group began to elaborate theory after theory right from the announcement of the official cast, which as mentioned will see the presence of Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
The question arises in particular how the characters will actually find a place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, given that the story takes place in an alternate 1963, probably belonging to a universe different from the cinematic one.
Clearly, given the “cosmic” nature of the situations these characters often have to deal with, we imagine that the concept of the multiverse will return to the fore, and perhaps at the end of the film the quartet will find themselves projected into the same timeline as the Avengers.
