The Game Boy’s lifespan was an incredible 12 years. When the legendary 8-bit handheld came onto the market in 1989, it was already considered technically outdated. After various hardware iterations such as the Game Boy Color, the portable console was only replaced in 2001 by the 32-bit Game Boy Advance.
When will the Switch 2 be released?
We will almost certainly be spared a similar scenario with the Switch, knock on wood. However, the incredible success of the hybrid console means that Nintendo can also take its time with a new console. And who can blame them?
With “filler titles” such as remasters, remakes and new editions of legendary classics, Nintendo ensures the supply of new games for the current Switch, while the main resources are spent on exclusive titles for the Switch 2. But when will Nintendo’s new console finally be released?
In an official announcement, the Japanese company made it clear that they will present the successor to the Switch within the current fiscal year. There is a fear that Nintendo will delay this date until the very last moment, i.e. until March 31, 2025 at the latest. This is completely understandable for a simple reason.

As soon as the Switch 2 is unveiled, the still excellent sales figures of its predecessor are likely to plummet immediately. But when the new device will actually be released is still up in the air. Theoretically, Nintendo could delay the Switch 2 until 2026. That would be a disaster for me personally. I’m fed up with my more than aging Switch, which is plagued by all sorts of hardware problems. What happens now?

What games will be available for the Switch 2?
Instead, I long for a breath of fresh air at Nintendo. I need a new 3D Mario with never-before-seen graphic splendor, with innovative game ideas that use the technology of the new Switch. I have wanderlust for a realistic Hyrule that I can explore with Link and Princess Zelda and in which life crawls, flies and breathes in every nook and cranny. But that’s not all.
I can’t wait to race down the tracks of a new Mario Kart that doesn’t have to compromise on resolution and frames per second. I want a Mario Maker that lets you recreate real 3D levels in the style of Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Galaxy. In short: I want the Switch 2, and I want it sooner rather than later, or at some point in the next few years.
