The Plants vs. Zombies franchise, despite its long history, continues to surprise the gaming community. This time, attention was drawn to Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 – Deluxe Edition, which unexpectedly found a second wind on Steam years after its release.
The reason for such a sudden revival of interest in the game was a generous discount from Electronic Arts. The publisher reduced the price of Garden Warfare 2 by as much as 90%, which could not go unnoticed by players. This promotion was so attractive that it led to a significant increase in online traffic on Steam.
At the end of July 2024, the number of concurrent players reached 9,000. While this number may not seem impressive by the standards of big hits, for Garden Warfare 2 it represents an all-time high on Steam, significantly surpassing the previous peak of activity. By comparison, in 2022, when the game first appeared on Valve’s store (the game originally came out in 2016), the maximum number of concurrent players barely exceeded 5,000.
It remains to be seen whether Garden Warfare 2’s newfound popularity will continue in the long term, or whether this is just a short-term blip due to a temporary price drop.
