We are already familiar with the filming of the process of taming dragons.
A featurette about the filming of the penultimate episode of the second season of House of the Dragon has been released. The creators of the show focused on Harrenhal and scenes with dragons: the Targaryens are trying to expand the ranks of dragon riders.
To film the scene of Rhaenyra meeting her new rider on the beach, the film crew not only had to carry fake dragon heads across the sand (the filming was done on location) (they were later replaced with computer graphics), but also clean up the actors’ and extras’ tracks after each take.
Harrenhal was a little different, with minimal on-location filming. The scenes with the weirwood were heavily CGI, but the weirwood itself was almost real: it was cut out of plastic and painted to imitate the real wood grain.
It is noteworthy that only part of Harrenhal was drawn using computer graphics: the surroundings of the tree were recreated by decorators, and the entire scene was filmed on the main filming base of the House of the Dragon, and not on a real rock.
In addition, the featurette showed the filming of another attempt to tame the dragon: it was filmed in much the same way as in the previous episode. And for filming the flights, a special ramp, LED screens and an air blower were traditionally used.
