Can fans of the crazy loot shooter “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands” look forward to new content soon? The evidence is currently mounting.
It’s been a little over two years since Gearbox Software launched “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands”, an official spin-off of the popular and successful shooter series “Borderlands”. It’s still very popular with fans, who have repeatedly expressed their desire for a sequel. Could it possibly happen sooner than previously thought?
How successful was Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands?
When “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands” was released for PC and consoles in March 2022, the loot shooter quickly turned out to be a real surprise hit. The action game from Gearbox Software was well received by both the trade press and fans. Proof of this is provided not least by a look at the website of the review aggregator Metacritic.comThere, the spin-off with the wacky Tiny Tina received a rating of 78 percent. In the official PlayStation Store It also has a remarkable four out of a maximum of five stars.
In contrast to “Borderlands 3” and its two predecessors, the gameplay does not take place in a crazy science fiction scenario, but rather leads to a live version of a tabletop role-playing game. In the midst of the completely exaggerated fantasy scenario, there are various character classes with individual skills to choose from, who have to deal with skeletons, dragons and other typical RPG creatures. There may soon be official additions to these.
Is Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2 coming soon?
Recently, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford answered questions of the magazine Games RadarAmong other things, “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands” and a possible successor were discussed. According to him, the fantasy scenario is still very popular with him and the development team. In addition, the loot shooter revolving around Tina was more successful than the first “Boderlands”. Accordingly, the community has a “reasonable reason” to hope for a follow-up.
“We had a bigger success with the first Wonderlands game than we did with the first Borderlands game, so we can build on that,” Pitchford said verbatim. “I love fantasy. That’s why we made the original Dragon Keep DLC for Borderlands 2, because I love fantasy so much. So many of us at Gearbox love fantasy, and it gives us the opportunity to play around with it in the context of the Borderlands themes and the Borderlands universe. I think it’s reasonable that our fans expect more here.”
Even more news of the day
Although Pitchford’s statements are by no means an official announcement, there are some indications that Gearbox Software could announce a successor to “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands” very soon. After all, there was talk of the launch of a new franchise some time ago. One conceivable setting for this would be this year’s gamescom, which will take place in Cologne from August 21 to 25, 2024.
