Kaspersky Lab is leaving the US market due to the impossibility of continuing to conduct business here due to its inclusion on the Entity List, a list of organizations that pose a threat to the country’s national security. As a parting gift, the company announced its decision to provide US residents with its computer security software for free use for 6 months, the resource writes bleepingcomputer.com.
The six-month limitation is likely due to the fact that the US Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has banned the distribution of Kaspersky Lab products in the country, including updates, starting on September 29.
“As Kaspersky Lab leaves the US, we’d like to give back in the best way we can: by giving away a suite of our security solutions for free for 6 months,” the company told US users.
The company also advised users to always back up their data, take precautions when clicking on unfamiliar links, and change passwords regularly, choosing complex and long ones.
In connection with the withdrawal from the US and the demand of the European Parliament to exclude the use of products from China and Russia in vital and sensitive sectors of the EU, Kaspersky Lab is forced to switch its attention to other regions, such as Asia and South America, noted the resource bleepingcomputer.com.
