SDCC Highlight #3: From video game hit to Prime Video series
It has been known for some time that a new film adaptation of Sega’s “Like a Dragon” or “Yakuza” game series is in the works. Prime Video finally made the decision two months ago and officially announced an adaptation of the popular game franchise as a series. As part of the San Diego Comic-Con 2024, the streaming service finally released a first teaser and confirmed the release for this year.
The story takes place in both 1995 and 2005 and, like the original game, focuses on Kazuma Kiryu. According to executive producer Masayoshi Yokoyama (“Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth”), fans can look forward to a “completely different” portrayal of the well-known characters in the upcoming “Like a Dragon: Yakuza” series. In his eyes, this is something he finds “really great” about the upcoming film adaptation.

This year, Hall H at the SDCC was once again firmly in the hands of Marvel Studios. MCU boss Kevin Feige led the panel and promised fans news about three films. There were also new details about the team-up film “Thunderbolts*”, in which various MCU antiheroes have to work together. Then there were the first scenes from “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”, which takes place in a parallel universe.
The Thunderbolts are, in a sense, Marvel’s counterpart to DC’s Suicide Squad.
Shortly before the end of the panel, Kevin Feige finally dropped the bombshell, because he actually had news about two more films: “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” will be released in May 2026 and May 2027 respectively.
