A new video for “Star Wars Outlaws” is dedicated to the underworld and introduces syndicates and Kay’s challenges.
The release of “Star Wars Outlaws” is only a few weeks away, which has given players a series of videos. After the general game world was the overarching topic a few days ago, this time the focus is on the underworld. In addition to all kinds of gameplay scenes, the video embedded below also includes numerous explanations from the developers.
First, Ubisoft focuses on the protagonist Kay Vess in the video for “Star Wars Outlaws”. She comes from Canto Bight, but specifically from the working class district. With this background, things like burglary, theft, hacking computer terminals, picking locks, sabotage and escape come into the gameplay.
BX battle droid ND-5 knows his way around the underworld
At the same time, Kay grew up with the idea that the galaxy was turned against people like her. In such a case, it is difficult to trust others. However, at the beginning of the story, Kay and her companion Nix are asked to trust someone new so that they can carry out the biggest heist in the galaxy.
In Star Wars Outlaws, the BX battle droid ND-5 enters the scene. These droids were the elite fighting forces for the Separatists during the Clone Wars and ND-5 bears the scars of that battle, but wonders what he should be today? His motto: “I’m just a battle droid. Infiltrate and eliminate, nothing more.”
“ND-5 is a veteran of the underworld,” says Ubisoft. “He’s been there for so many years that he understands how the syndicates and the empire work. But he lacks a feel for people. And that’s where Kay Vess can complement him.”
The two must learn to trust each other if they want to overcome the galaxy’s most dangerous criminal overlords.
Sliro leads the deadliest syndicate
In “Star Wars Outlaws” a counterpoint to the protagonist was also established. “Sliro is everything Kay is not. He is rich. He knows what he wants. And he has an army behind him,” writes Ubisoft.
His character, personality and life story shape his appearance. It is a glorious era for crime and players will encounter an adversary who provides a deep insight into how the underworld works and how ruthless and dangerous it is.
“Sliro leads the deadliest syndicate I’ve ever seen. And he wants you gone. Zerek Besh have taken the galaxy by storm. And the other syndicates have really taken notice. We took a lot of inspiration from mercenaries for their design. They have access to the best equipment. You don’t want to get in their way,” the video for “Star Wars Outlaws” continues.
Ubisoft set out to make each of the syndicates look authentic, from their clothing to their blasters and their hideouts.
Ultimately, Star Wars Outlaws is about Kay taking on some of the galaxy’s most notorious criminal syndicates, including Crimson Dawn, led by Qi’ra, who is described as very elegant and stylish.
The Ashiga clan, on the other hand, consists of the Melitto species, which is very hierarchical. It is a clan with Japanese influences that works collectively and is native to the ice planet Kijimi. Since the Melitto are blind, they prefer textures and sounds to colors and lights.
Watch your reputation in Star Wars Outlaws
A central element of “Star Wars Outlaws” is the reputation system. This involves decisions that players make to shape and secure their relationship with each of the criminal syndicates.
“Here, you live and die by your reputation,” says Ubisoft. “The reputation system is about opening and closing opportunities with these syndicates. It’s not about being loyal to one syndicate for life. It’s about using the underworld to your advantage.”
The impact of your current reputation with the Syndicate will be felt in many different ways, including discounts and access to special contracts. The Syndicates can provide access to areas and districts that players would otherwise not have access to. However, if your reputation is less good, the Syndicates can also pose an active threat.

Players will soon be able to venture through the underworld themselves: “Star Wars Outlaws” will be released on August 30, 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
