Apple has released another software update for iPhone and iPad — iOS 17.6 and iPadOS 17.6 are now available for download on all compatible devices. These are likely to be some of the last relatively major updates for these operating systems — we won’t have long to wait for iOS 18.
It should be noted that the mentioned updates practically do not include any significant functions and are mainly focused on increasing the level of security and stability of the OS. The only notable innovation in iOS 17.6 was the Catch Up function, which allows you to view a brief summary of sports broadcasts shown by the Apple TV service.
For example, if a user is late for a match broadcast for some reason, they can watch a series of short videos with the most important moments that happened earlier. The most interesting moments can also be accessed after the broadcast has ended. The Catch Up function is currently available as part of the MLS Season Pass subscription, which provides access to American football league matches. It is likely that in the future, this function will also be supported during the broadcast of other sporting events.
iOS 17.6 will be one of the last updates for the current generation mobile software platform. Apple will begin distributing iOS 18 in September, but most likely, iOS 17.7 will be released before that. Not long ago, Apple released the first beta version of iOS 18.1, which implements the first AI functions within Apple Intelligence.
