An amendment requiring owners of YouTube channels with more than 10,000 subscribers to report information about themselves to Roskomnadzor has received support from the State Duma Committee on Information Policy.
Russian Minister of Digital Development Maksut Shadayev disclosed this information to journalists. The changes to the bill were proposed “to ensure the protection of Russian citizens from crimes related to the use of mobile communications.”
Alexander Khinshtein, head of the committee, explained that a ban on disseminating prohibited information has been introduced for channel owners.
“All social networks are included (in the list of those to which the bill applies). On YouTube too, if you have more than 10 thousand subscribers from Russia, then you are obliged (to comply with the requirements).
