With the spectacular release of Deadpool and Wolverine, there seems to be life and vision back at Marvel Studios. Audiences have been clamoring for a return to big, big-budget chorus stories, so the internet erupted in jubilation when it was announced that the Russo brothers would be returning to direct the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, as well as Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU, this time as Doctor Doom.
But bringing back Marvel’s past glory was not an easy or cheap task. Variety reported, Marvel’s contracts with the Russo brothers have been leaked, with a salary of $80 million for directing both films. There is no additional compensation, but there is a scale when the films’ box office revenue exceeds $750 million and $1 billion.
No exact figures have been released for Robert Downey Jr., but it seems the payout for his new role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be “significantly more” than the Director brothers, whose hiring was crucial to the Iron Man actor’s return. Doctor Doom seems to be the new big villain in Marvel’s future after Jonathan Majors’ fall from grace and Kang the Conqueror’s departure from the club.
