Microsoft has announced a fix for a known issue that some users were experiencing after installing the Windows 11 23H2 update, causing the operating system to reboot cyclically and the taskbar to become unresponsive. The software giant was forced to suspend the distribution of the Windows 11 23H2 update due to this bug. A patch to fix the error was released on July 9.
The Windows 11 reboot loop issue has affected those using virtual machines and other virtualization tools such as CloudPC, DevBox, and Azure Virtual Desktop. Some users have also reported issues with VMware virtual machines. Many users were unhappy that the problematic update causing the OS reboot loop was installed without their consent, as the package was forcefully deployed by Microsoft. The only way to avoid installing the update is to disable the Windows Update service or disconnect the Internet on the PC.
Since the Windows 11 reboot loop issue was resolved, Microsoft has already resumed distribution of the Windows 11 23H2 update. However, the package remains blocked for devices that use virtualization software. Once the patch is distributed, we should expect Windows 11 23H2 to continue to be forced to install on all compatible devices.
The patch released on July 9 also fixes an issue with the taskbar that prevented it from loading after installing the Windows 11 23H2 update. Once the patch is installed, the taskbar will load correctly.
However, there is still an issue where the Photos app may not load if the BlockNonAdminUserInstall feature is enabled. This issue affects PCs where the Photos app was updated through the Windows Store starting on June 4, 2024.
