Last week, Warner Bros. and NetherRealm revealed the future of Mortal Kombat 1. With the game’s anniversary approaching, the developers unveiled the first major story DLC, which will come with a second set of characters. The add-on itself is called Khaos Reigns, and it’s available for pre-order for $49.99.
Players on social networks and on Reddit criticized the presented DLC for Mortal Kombat 1. According to them, the game is still “broken”, almost a year after its release. At the same time, the developers from NetherRealm, instead of solving the current problems, simply hastily add the maximum number of characters that can be sold and earned. Many players consider this unnecessary, considering the presence of microtransactions in the game itself, which have also been repeatedly criticized before.
A few weeks ago, the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring was released, and many players are comparing the DLC for Mortal Kombat 1 to it. FromSoftware released a DLC that gives access to a huge amount of content, and its development lasted more than 2 years since the release of the original Elden Ring. At the same time, they sold their DLC for $39.99, while NetherRealm wants to get $49.99 for “a 2-3 hour story campaign and 6 new fighters”.

The cost of any DLC should be proportional to the cost of the game in terms of content. If your DLC costs the same as the base game, it better have as much content as was available at launch.

If Shadow of the Erdtree costs $40, all other DLC should cost less.

The expansion costs more than Helldivers 2 at full price. I highly doubt that this expansion has more content than Helldivers 2.
It is worth noting that a lot of criticism is directed at NetherRealm, but most likely the publisher, Warner Bros., set the price of the add-on. This can be judged from a repost of a post on Twitter by NetherRealm Senior Production Manager Jonathan Anderson. He reposted a post where one of the players called NetherRealm “insane” if they want to get $49.99 for this DLC.
Let’s recall the characters that will be included in the Khaos Reigns DLC for Mortal Kombat 1:
CyraxSectorNoob SaibotGhostface (from the Scream franchise)Conan (from the Conan the Barbarian franchise)T-1000 (from the Terminator franchise)
It is worth saying that the set of characters itself was not received positively by all players.
