AI, according to the director, is dangerous, but useful.
Gladiator 2 director Ridley Scott believes that Hollywood needs to “embrace” artificial intelligence, especially in post-production and special effects.
The director talks about this and the fear he still feels about rapidly developing technologies. told in an interview with Empire.
For one scene in Gladiator 2 in which Paul Mescal fights a rhinoceros, the team built a practical, digitally controlled, eight-wheeled model. The plastic rhinoceros was so strong that the actor could climb on top of it.
However, to make this rhino realistic, three-dimensional and textured, the filmmakers turned to generative artificial intelligence.

Computerization and artificial intelligence – you have to embrace that. I can ask a computer to count every molecule and wrinkle on a rhinoceros, and then cut it all out on a thick piece of plastic that’s exactly like the rhinoceros’ body.
According to producer Doug Vick, Scott wanted the rhino scene to be done back in 2000’s Gladiator. However, special effects like this were prohibitively expensive at the time.
At the same time, Ridley Scott treats AI with caution and compares it to a “technical hydrogen bomb” that can take over and disable all the world’s monetary and electrical systems.

There are discussions in the government about how to block AI. Are you f*cking kidding me? You will never block it.
And the film “Gladiator 2” will be released on November 22, 2024.
