Tekken father Katsuhiro Harada took to social media to express his dissatisfaction with the lack of diversity in 3D fighting games in the modern gaming industry.
He responded to the information about the 19th anniversary of Sega’s Virtua Fighter 5, noting that there is no longer a variety of such games. Harada expressed surprise at the long period of time and laments that the modern era is saturated with 2D fighting games, either completely new or continuing series.
“I am deeply saddened by the lack of competition in the world of 3D fighting games. Since 2006, Sega has released new versions of Virtua Fighter 5, but from 2010 to 2021, there were no sequels. The latest creation is an updated version of Virtua Fighter 3, available in Like a Dragon 8.
Bandai Namco’s Soulcalibur received its last game in 2018, while the Dead or Alive series has been on hold since 2019. And there’s no need to even think about the other franchises.”
