Since their origins in the 80s, the Knights of the Zodiac (Italian adaptation of Saint Seiya) have conquered the hearts of millions of fans around the world, first with the famous manga and then with the equally successful anime series. And of course there have been various video games.
Aside from a few productions for mobile systems, it’s been several years since any new titles entirely focused on Saint Seiya have been published: the last of these, Saint Seiya Soldiers’ Soul for PlayStation 4, dates back to 2015. And as if that weren’t enough, very often the quality of videogames based on the Knights of the Zodiac have not been of quality, often being criticized by the international press.
It is therefore difficult to establish which is in all respects the best game about the Knights of the Zodiac out there, at least among those that have landed in the West. Consulting Metacritic, this primacy would go to Saint Seiya Sanctuary Battle, published on PlayStation 3 worldwide between 2011 and 2012 but still received lukewarmly by the press with a metascore of 62. The other video games have instead reached lower averages, including Saint Seiya Soldiers’ Soul itself which did not go beyond 59. In short, Saint Seiya fans have never been very lucky with video games, unless they go and recover the very first games that remained Japanese exclusives such as the RPG adventures for NES.
Let’s say that other famous anime/manga have had more luck in the video game field: for example, we’ll mention 3 One Piece games that fans absolutely must play and for which it’s worth spending some of your free time.
