Pocket Pair: Palworld Was Never Designed to Be Played Forever
Speaking on the Going Indie YouTube channel, Palworld community manager John Buckley, better known to players as Bucky, responded to claims that Palworld is a “dead game” due to its daily player count of around 60,000, compared to 2 million daily players at launch.
Buckley argued that Palworld was never designed to be played forever and that it would serve no purpose to players.
According to Buckley, if players continue to play the same games, it will strengthen the belief among publishers and developers that more live service games are the way forward.
“I don’t think you should force yourself to play the same game all the time,” Buckley said. “It’s not healthy for us, it’s not healthy for developers, it’s not healthy for gamers, it’s not healthy for the games media.”
Buckley added, “That’s not healthy for our industry, because the more we push this kind of narrative, the more big companies are going to say, ‘Gamers want more live service games.’”
“We’re just going to get more soulless live service games coming out and then shutting down 9-12 months later because they don’t make enough money. We’re all going to lose out on that.”
Instead, Buckley says players should play a wider variety of games, especially indie games, to focus more on having fun rather than committing to one game like Palworld.
“Play as many indie games as you can,” Buckley notes. “Spend as much money on indie games as you can. Really, support the developers who are trying to make fun games. Who cares if only five people are playing it? Just enjoy it. Just enjoy the games. I don’t think it needs to be any more complicated than that.”
Palworld is now available as an Early Access game on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and PC (Steam, Microsoft Store).
