It’s been a decade since Edge of Tomorrow came out and blew many of us away with its fantastic action and mind-boggling story. Fans have long been clamoring for a sequel, and director Doug Liman has made no secret of the fact that he’s exploring how to make that happen, but it seems that it’s not without its challenges.
In conversation with Collider Liman reveals that he is still trying to figure out the sequel and how to implement the challenging time travel elements in it.
“I mean, Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise have never been as good at their game as they are now. I’d be crazy not to try to figure out how to make a sequel. So I’m spending time trying to crack it. On the other hand, time travel is really hard. Really, really hard. All you have to do is develop a movie with time travel to come to the conclusion that people will never travel through time, because it’s hard to find a third act in a movie with time travel. So I know people will never travel through time, but I’m trying to crack it.”
Needless to say, it’s a pretty understandable problem that Liman seems to run into, and it’s also a bit refreshing because the director is clearly very focused on delivering a worthy sequel and not just a disappointing cash grab like we’ve seen from other franchises in the past.
