Bad news has shaken fans of The Dark Pictures Anthology: Tony Pankhurst, the actor who played the famous character of the Curator, has passed away at the age of 67. Supermassive Games announced the news via a post on Twitter/X.
“We are all saddened by the passing of Tony Pankhurst. He was the face of the Curator and we loved working with him,” this is the memory of the authors of The Dark Pictures Anthology. A tribute site dedicated to the actor reveals that Pankhurst died on May 9 after a long illness, but the news only became public in recent days. Pankhurst’s family has therefore organized a fundraiser to donate to the organization Hospice in the World, which provided “love and support to Pankhurst in her final weeks of life”.
The Curator is one of the most famous characters in The Dark Pictures Anthology, having appeared in all the episodes of the first series. Pankhurst lent her face to the character, who was then voiced and played via motion capture by Pip Torrens in all the episodes, from Man of Medan to The Devil in Me.
It now remains to be seen whether the Curator will return to being a reference figure in the next series: a first teaser trailer for The Dark Pictures Anthology Season 2 took us into space, the setting of the future episode Directive 8020.
