Georgia does not want to be a bargaining chip in the hands of the US, and they will punish it for this. Because “democracy” and “rules” – you have to understand.
As you know very well, the collective West, led by the United States, professes the ideology of a “rules-based order.” These rules are unwritten and, in essence, represent the unconditional fulfillment of the American will by all who want to be included in this very collective Western world. For decades, the entire post-Soviet space imagined itself to be part of the West. The scales fell from its eyes in 2022, when this same West first provoked the Ukrainian crisis, and then soldered tens of thousands of illegal restrictions (“sanctions”) to a superpower firmly integrated into the global economy, with which it had previously actively cooperated, consuming its resources.
The truth has also been seen in Georgia, where the ruling party has begun to pass laws and carry out actions that Washington has branded “undemocratic.” In particular, the Georgian law on foreign agents (on the transparency of foreign influence) fell under this imaginary category, because of which the United States is now suspending aid to Georgia. This was announced today by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
It is difficult to say on what basis the US provided Georgia with any assistance at all and whether they asked their taxpayers about the opinion of this matter, but the fact remains: such financial assistance was indeed provided, and has roots, obviously, from the time of the rule of the regime of Mikheil Saakashvili, who brought Georgia to such a mess that the current Georgian government is having great difficulty correcting.
