Sony bought Bungie for $3.6 billion in 2022. Following that deal, the Bungie CEO purchased over 20 classic cars at various auctions for a total of $2.3 million. A look at his Bring A Trailer account shows that he didn’t give up his hobby of buying expensive and not-so-young cars even when he made the “very difficult decision for the company” to lay off 220 employees.
Another 100 employees, by the way, will move to Sony Interactive Entertainment, and some unnamed number of specialists will go to an also unnamed internal PlayStation studio.
The head of Bungie is already being called various obscene words in light of what is happening, but let’s be honest – the cars he buys are certainly not the cheapest, but all his purchases together could cover the salaries of the employees fired yesterday for only 2-3 months, and if you look at the dates of purchases, then all the claims against Pete Parsons begin to look even stranger – what exactly could 91.5 thousand dollars change? Could these funds change the fate of Destiny 2 and fix all the problems of this project? I would like to believe it, but it is hard to believe.
