Bungie CEO Pete Parsons announced that they would have to lay off 17 percent of their workforce due to rising costs.
The wave of layoffs seems to have no end in sight. At Bungie, the development studio behind Destiny 2, another 220 employees are now being laid off, which corresponds to another 17 percent of the workforce.
This is not the first case of layoffs at Bungie. Just last October, 100 employees were laid off.
Bungie CEO Pete Parsons cited rising development costs and economic conditions as the reason for the new layoffs. In addition, the company plans to relocate another 120 employees to other departments within Sony Interactive Entertainment.
“We are working with PlayStation Studios leadership to spin off one of our incubation projects – an action game set in a brand new science-fantasy universe – and establish a new studio within PlayStation Studios to continue its promising development,” Parsons wrote.
Currently, 850 members of the studio are said to be working on Destiny and Marathon, the announced sci-fi shooter. Another game is being developed within PlayStation Studios.
