Creative director Julian Gerighty believes that criticisms of the protagonist of Star Wars Outlaws are disingenuous and therefore do not deserve a response or even discussion, as recently happened with the issue of Yasuke and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
“Kay is a relatable character, a petty thief who ends up dealing with a bigger story than herself, making bad decisions and dealing with them with humor, humility and toughness,” Gerighty explained in an interview. “That’s what’s important to me. And she’s beautiful, come on.”
“These controversies are meaningless to me and not worth considering. If you are dealing with people in bad faith, there are no nuances and there is no possibility of a real dialogue. So all we can do is make the best game possible.”
A truly ambitious project
Star Wars Outlaws’ creative director recently revealed that the game’s open world is inspired by a major PlayStation exclusive, reiterating how this project represents a dream come true for developers Massive Entertainment.
As you may recall, the controversy surrounding Kay Vess’s appearance began a few months ago, just like the controversy surrounding the authenticity of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, but Gerighty has decided to address the situation in the best possible way.
At this point, the ball is in Massive Entertainment’s court, and on August 30th they will have to demonstrate that they have created a Star Wars adventure that lives up to the expectations of the many fans of this famous narrative universe.
